School Council

Our school values the student voice, and as a result of this there are both year and school councils at which pupils can express their views. Year councils are held weekly or fortnightly, and at the meeting, any matters arising within a particular year group are discussed. Points, which affect the whole school, and need to be taken further, are then taken to the fortnightly school council meeting.

How our system works

1. Form Representatives

Elections for form representatives are held at the beginning of each academic year. Each form group votes to decide on two pupils to represent their form at the weekly/ fortnightly year council meeting.

Form representatives take any matters, which have arisen within their form to this meeting.

2. Year Representatives

These individuals are elected by the year council to represent the year group on the school council. They follow through any issues affecting the whole school which have arisen in their year group, by bringing them to the school council meeting.

3. School Council

All issues discussed are minuted and these minutes are then placed on all form notice boards. Progress made is reported back through the year councils to the individual forms.

When Are The Meetings?

We hold our meeting every week 2 Wednesday at 1:20 in the Main School library. Year representatives are required to attend, but if any pupil has a particular topic, which they would like to discuss, they can attend too.

What Does The School Council Do?

In addition to any matters, which may have arisen from year councils, the school council is also involved in many other projects. Recently some pupils have taken part in an interview process for a new assistant head teacher, and pupils were also involved with the new catering company tender in July. At present we are trying to establish a link with a coffee growing region in Ethiopia (Yirgacheffe), and run a scheme to send books to the tribe from Papua New Guinea who visited Mrs Binns last year. We are also involved with many proposed changes within the school when propositions occur.

Who Are My Representatives on the School Council?

Take a look at our list of representatives.

Your Voice

If you have an issue that you would like to be discussed at one of our meeting, either attend yourself, ask one of your year representatives to bring up the issue, or ask Sam Cope or Amy Bradley if it can be put onto the agenda.

Get Involved, It's Probably More Interesting Than You'd Expect!
